How to Prepare for Your First Professional Cleaning

3 min read

You do not need to clean your home before the cleaners arrive. The most useful preparation is making the agreed areas accessible, sharing your priorities and arranging entry. A few practical steps help Cleaning Fairy Vancouver spend the visit on the work you booked rather than searching for instructions or working around avoidable obstacles.

If the home feels overwhelming, start by saying so. Photos and an honest description of the condition are enough to begin planning. You do not need to hide the areas that need the most help.

Before the booking: explain what matters most

Tell us your bedroom and bathroom counts, approximate floor area, whether you have pets and when the home was last thoroughly cleaned. Share photos of the areas you want prioritised and mention special requests such as oven or refrigerator interiors.

Choose your top three priorities. “The shower, kitchen and floors matter most” gives the team a clearer starting point than a long list with no order. If your budget or time window is fixed, discuss what should take priority and how extra work would be handled.

Clear access without doing the cleaning yourself

  • Put away loose papers, clothing and personal items from surfaces to be cleaned.

  • Clear the sink and counters if those are part of the agreed kitchen work.

  • Move everyday items off floors where practical.

  • Set aside jewellery, cash, important documents and fragile keepsakes.

  • Identify rooms, objects or surfaces the team should leave alone.

Tidying and cleaning are different kinds of work. If sorting belongings is the main challenge, ask about an organising visit rather than expecting the cleaner to decide what to keep or where personal items belong.

Organising service:

Share instructions for your home

Tell us about natural stone, special floor finishes, delicate fixtures, damaged surfaces and any manufacturer restrictions. If something has just been painted or installed, confirm when and how it may be cleaned before the appointment.

Cleaning Fairy Vancouver brings supplies and equipment. Discuss product sensitivities or material requirements in advance so the team can assess the request. Avoid leaving an unfamiliar product with an instruction to use it everywhere; suitability depends on the surface and the product directions.

Arrange pets, access and communication

Make a comfortable plan for pets and tell us about any access restrictions they create. Decide whether you will be home and give the team a reachable contact for questions during the visit.

Confirm parking, the entry buzzer, the correct unit and any concierge or elevator requirements. Share codes and key instructions privately through your booking conversation. Make sure water and electricity are available, and flag any rooms that cannot be entered.

Prepare appliance interiors only if they are booked

If refrigerator or cupboard interiors are in the agreed scope, discuss which items need to be removed and when. Mention broken fittings, sticking drawers or unusual appliance instructions. Oven cleaning also needs time allocated in the booking, even though Cleaning Fairy Vancouver does not charge a separate oven fee.

Do not assume a routine visit includes moving heavy furniture, removing connected appliances or handling repairs. Ask about those obstacles beforehand so the plan remains practical.

First-visit questions

Do I have to stay home?

Discuss the access arrangement when booking. Whether you stay or leave, provide a contact who can answer any necessary questions.

Should I book regular or deep cleaning first?

The starting condition and your priorities determine the right scope. Send photos if several areas need substantial catch-up work.

Will everything fit the minimum booking?

Not necessarily. The four labour-hour minimum is a booking minimum, not a guarantee of completing every requested task. Agree the proposed labour and priorities in advance.
