Post-Construction Cleaning Checklist for Vancouver Homes
What should a post-construction cleaning checklist include? Start with the agreed rooms and finishes, accessible dust and surface cleaning, cabinet interiors where requested, bathrooms, kitchen areas and suitable floor care. Add access arrangements, the condition left by the trades and a final review. The checklist should reflect the actual project rather than assume every renovation needs identical work.
This guide is for planning a residential clean after building or renovation work in Vancouver and nearby communities. It complements our guide to choosing the right booking date; here the focus is deciding what the cleaning team should include, what needs clarification and how to prepare a useful quote request.

Before cleaning: confirm the condition of the site
Confirm which trades have finished and whether more dust-producing work is scheduled. Identify rooms that are ready for cleaning and areas that still require contractor access. If someone will be drilling, sanding or installing finishes after the clean, discuss the possibility of a later touch-up rather than assume the first visit will remain the final result.
Ask who is responsible for construction debris, leftover materials and protective coverings. Ordinary cleaning and contractor waste removal are different scopes. Tell us about unusual dust, spills, damaged materials or other site conditions before booking so the team can assess what is appropriate for the service.
Kitchen and cabinet checklist
Review each area instead of treating a kitchen as one item. Dust on cabinet fronts, debris inside drawers and marks on a countertop may call for different work and care instructions.
Cabinet fronts, handles and accessible exterior surfaces.
Empty cabinet interiors, shelves and drawers if included.
Countertops, backsplash and sink, using suitable methods for the finish.
Appliance exteriors; appliance interiors only where agreed.
Accessible edges and floor areas after the work zone is cleared.
New finishes can come with specific care instructions. Share those instructions and tell us whether a product or treatment must be avoided. Paint spots, adhesive residue and protective-film removal should be identified individually; do not assume every mark can be removed without affecting the surface.
Bathroom checklist
Identify the tub or shower, toilet, vanity, mirrors, glass and floor areas included in the clean. Mention recently installed fixtures, sealants and any areas the contractor says should not yet be exposed to water or cleaning products.
Avoid setting a universal cleaning method for all materials. A glass shower panel, a stone vanity and a coated fixture can require different care. The purpose of the checklist is to communicate those differences before the visit, not to promise that every construction mark is routine dirt.
Rooms, trim and floors
List the bedrooms, living areas and hallways ready for cleaning. Agree accessible surface dusting, baseboards, doors, frames, ledges and floor care as appropriate to the project. State whether rooms are empty or furnished, because belongings and access affect the work required.
For carpets, distinguish vacuuming from specialist extraction. Tell us if carpet or upholstery cleaning is also needed so it can be assessed and quoted separately. Do the same for any requests involving interior windows, tracks, exterior glass or difficult access; these details should be explicit in the quote.

Access and handover checklist
Arrange keys or fobs, confirm parking and explain any concierge instructions. For a condo project in Vancouver, Burnaby or Richmond, check building-specific access requirements with management. Tell us about elevator restrictions, equipment access and the time the home needs to be ready.
Allow room in the schedule for a final review. Identify your priority rooms and the person who can answer questions about new materials or the agreed scope. If the construction plan changes, update the cleaning arrangement before the team arrives.

How Cleaning Fairy prepares the quote
Send the property size, city, photos, type of work completed and preferred timing. Include the list of rooms, special finishes and requested extras. A small bathroom renovation and a whole-home project can leave very different amounts of work, even if both are described as post-construction cleaning.
Our standard one-time labour rate is CAD $60 per labour-hour, or CAD $49 per labour-hour when at least one additional cleaning of any type is also booked. A minimum of four labour-hours applies, with GST extra. The minimum is not a fixed price for a renovation project or a completion guarantee. The scope and expected labour need to be assessed for your site.
Frequently asked questions
Is construction debris removal included automatically?
No. Clarify responsibility for debris and leftover building materials before the appointment. Cleaning scope and waste removal arrangements need to be agreed separately.
Does every post-construction clean include windows?
Do not assume that it does. Specify the glass, frames, tracks, condition and access so the requested work can be assessed and included or quoted separately.
Can you clean while trades are still working?
Tell us which areas are complete and what work remains. We can discuss suitable timing and priorities; ongoing dust-producing work may change the plan or create a need for a later visit.
