How Much Should I Pay a Cleaner per Hour in Calgary? (2026)

6 min read

How much should I pay a cleaner per hour in Calgary? At Cleaning Fairy, one single one-time visit is CAD $60 per labour-hour, or CAD $49 when you book at least one additional cleaning of any type. The minimum is four labour-hours, plus GST. Local alternatives include private cleaners advertising lower hourly rates and companies using hourly or flat visit prices.

Updated October 21, 2026. All amounts in this guide are Canadian dollars. Competitor figures are a snapshot of public pages checked on that date, not a promise of what another provider will quote for your home.

First, check whether the price is per cleaner or per team

One labour-hour means one cleaner working for one hour. Two cleaners working for two hours provide four labour-hours, even though the visit lasts two hours. A cleaner's customer-facing service rate is also different from an employee's wage: the service price may fund supplies, equipment, insurance, training, scheduling and business support.

Ask every provider: how many cleaners, how many labour-hours and what total before tax? A flat price per visit cannot be converted into an hourly rate unless the staffing and work time are known.

How to read the offer

$49 or $60 / labour-hour

$49 with at least one additional cleaning booked; $60 for one single visit. Four labour-hour minimum; GST extra. Supplies and equipment included.

$59 / cleaner-hour

Published hourly minimum: three hours; $177 before applicable tax for one cleaner × three hours. Recurring discounts and package/add-on terms are separate.

First cleaning from $188 per visit

A home-based visit price, not an hourly rate. Most first cleans on its page fall between $252 and $416. Confirm scope, add-ons and tax treatment.

Examples at $25, $30 and $35 / hour

Individuals' advertised asking rates, not completed-job prices or a representative market average. Some profiles cover broader housekeeping duties.

The lowest hourly number and the lowest invoice are different things. For example, a three-hour minimum at $59 is $177 before applicable tax, while Cleaning Fairy's qualifying four-hour minimum at $49 is $196 plus GST. These bookings buy different amounts of labour, so comparing only the minimum totals would be misleading.

Our insured employee team brings professional supplies and equipment. The four-hour minimum is a minimum booking size, not a guarantee that four hours will finish every home. The final time depends on the requested tasks, condition, layout and access.

The $49 option is not limited to booking the same cleaning type twice: at least one additional cleaning of any type qualifies under our booking terms. Tell us about both visits when requesting the quote. Our senior offer is separate and applies to new senior clients choosing recurring regular home cleaning.

Why does a cleaning company often cost more than a private cleaner?

An independent cleaner can offer excellent work and a personal relationship, sometimes with lower overhead. A company's service price can include a wider support system: recruiting and training, equipment, insurance, supervision, scheduling and handling feedback. Those services are part of what you are comparing, alongside the cleaning itself.

At Cleaning Fairy, cleaners are employees, supplies and equipment are included, and standardized checklists and field management support the work. We discuss priorities and provide a company contact for booking questions and follow-up.

What should I check before hiring a private cleaner?

The risk is uncertainty when the arrangement has not been checked. Being independent does not automatically mean someone is uninsured or unreliable, just as having a company name does not prove quality. Ask for the same practical information from either option.

  • Insurance and responsibility: ask what cover applies to work in your home and how a damage concern would be handled.

  • References and identity: speak with relevant clients where possible and agree who will enter the property.

  • Scope and equipment: put the room list, tasks, supplies and agreed hours in writing.

  • Continuity: ask what happens if the cleaner is sick or unavailable, rather than assuming a replacement exists.

  • Payment and feedback: confirm the total, applicable tax, cancellation terms and how concerns should be raised.

Does deep cleaning or oven cleaning cost more?

More detailed work usually needs more labour-hours. A neglected bathroom, heavy kitchen grease, pet hair or an oven interior can take longer than routine maintenance. Discuss those tasks before booking so the estimate reflects the actual work.

For Cleaning Fairy, oven-interior work is planned into the agreed cleaning time rather than charged as a separate oven fee. It is part of move-out cleaning, can be included in deep cleaning and is available on request during regular cleaning. A heavily soiled oven and its racks may require substantial time.

Carpet and upholstery steam cleaning use a separate team and quote. Window cleaning is also quoted separately; do not apply our $49/$60 house-cleaning rate to those services.

Found a recommendation from a neighbour, Nextdoor or Facebook?

A local recommendation is a useful starting point. Ask what service the person actually booked, when it happened, how many hours were used and whether the final bill matched the agreed work. A short comment without those details tells you less about value.

Then check the current Google profile, the cleaning scope and a written quote. You can use the direct Google link above to read recommendations for Cleaning Fairy in their original context.

How to get a realistic Calgary or Airdrie quote

Tell us the approximate size of the home, number of bathrooms, the rooms or floors to include and whether this is regular, deep or move-out cleaning. Mention heavy buildup, pets, appliance interiors and access instructions. If you want the $49 rate, tell us about the additional cleaning you plan to book.

You do not have to guess the right number of hours yourself. We will discuss your priorities and provide a personalized quote. The right comparison is the agreed work, total labour, included support and final cost together.

Frequently asked questions

How much should I pay a cleaner per hour in Calgary?

Cleaning Fairy charges CAD $60 per labour-hour for a single one-time visit, or CAD $49 when you book at least one additional cleaning of any type. The minimum is four labour-hours and GST is extra. Compare the scope, minimum hours, supplies and total when checking other providers.

Do two cleaners cost double?

Two cleaners working for one hour provide two labour-hours. Team size may shorten the visit without reducing the total labour-hours. Ask for the expected total labour and elapsed visit time.

Can I book only two labour-hours?

Cleaning Fairy's minimum visit is four labour-hours. Two cleaners working for two hours meet that minimum; one cleaner working for two hours does not.

Is $49 only for weekly cleaning?

No. The $49 per labour-hour rate applies when you book at least one additional cleaning of any type. Discuss the planned visits with us when requesting your quote.

Should I choose the lowest hourly price?

Compare the written scope, minimum hours, total cost, equipment, insurance and communication. An independent cleaner can be a good choice, but a lower advertised rate alone does not establish the full cost or the support included.

Competitor pricing was read from the providers' own public pages; individual asking-rate examples came from the local NannyServices.ca listings. Offers may change, and different minimums, tax treatment and service scopes prevent a simple cheapest-to-most-expensive ranking.
